David Newton Associates is an architectural practice based near the cotswold town of Stroud in Gloucestershire. Our core strengths lie in the analysis, conservative repair and sensitive adaptation of historic buildings but we also delight in the creative design of unique new structures in both historic and contemporary settings. All our work is guided by a thoroughly evolved brief and by the natural and built context of the site to create successful projects. Sustainability in its widest sense influences how we operate as a business and what we design.

ABOUT US

David Newton Associates are passionate about combining the highest standards of design and specification with good management skills to create successful projects, and we pride ourselves in our ability to communicate effectively with all participants in a project’s journey. Underpinning our work is a broad and varied set of skills and experience allied to a deep empathy with the subject and a habit of continuous learning.

We are experienced in working with a wide range of traditional materials and use established conservation principles to find appropriate, sympathetic solutions to the care, repair, adaptation and alteration of historic buildings of all ages from the ancient to the post-industrial.

We have no house style but rather our design work is guided by a thoroughly evolved, detailed briefing process and by the natural and built context of the site to produce high quality sustainable, civilised structures that reflect their own time, place and purpose. Our designs are always influenced by sustainability issues and we gravitate to the use of natural, renewable materials and technologies to create healthy environments.

SERVICES

We provide the full range of specialist services in the care of historic structures including quinquennial and project-specific condition surveys, planning, listed building, scheduled monument, building control and faculty consents.

We provide the full range of architectural services for the creation of new structures from initial sketch schemes to completion on site. We take particular care and delight in the site analysis and briefing process and we are able to produce images in various media including physical models to help visualise the design.

In both the conservation and the creation of structures we are able to compile high quality, appropriate drawn & written documentation to support fund-raising, tendering and construction. We routinely manage building contracts and act as lead consultant. When additional resources are required we are able to draw upon a pool of specialist skills including quantity surveyors, structural engineers, mechanical & electrical engineers, surveyors, materials analysts, historians, ecologists, and archaeologists to provide a team tailored to the specific requirements of each project.
